🧜‍♀️ Wendee the Mermaid

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 July 2026

Kid-friendly · No ads · No tracking for advertising

Wendee the Mermaid (“the Game”, “we”, “us”) is a watercolor ocean game available on the web at wendeemermaid.com and as a mobile app. This policy explains what limited data we handle and why. We designed the Game to collect as little as possible.

Summary

Information we process

DataWhen / why
A random device identifier Created on your device the first time you play, stored locally. Sent with a leaderboard submission so your own best score can be recognised. It is not linked to your identity.
Username & score Only if you choose to submit to the world leaderboard. The username you type is shown publicly on the leaderboard. Usernames are automatically screened for inappropriate content before appearing.
Email address Only if you buy the optional “All-Oceans Pass” (web) — used to send your license key and to let you restore your purchase. Payment is processed by Stripe; we never receive your card details.
License key & device count If you own the Pass, we store your key and how many devices have activated it (to prevent unlimited sharing).
Crash / error diagnostics If the Game hits an error, we may send the error message, the app version and your browser type so we can fix bugs. No personal profile is built.
Basic, privacy-friendly usage analytics Aggregate page/visit counts via our hosting provider, used only to understand overall traffic. Not used for advertising.
Game settings & progress Your language, chosen ocean, character look and local high scores are stored on your own device only (local storage) and are not sent to us.

Why we process it (legal bases)

Service providers

We share the minimum data needed with providers that operate the service on our behalf:

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers.

Children’s privacy

The Game is suitable for children and families. We do not knowingly collect more than the minimal data above, we do not show behavioural advertising, and we do not build profiles of players. A child can play the entire Game without submitting any personal information; submitting a public username is optional and should be done with a parent’s awareness. If you believe a child has provided personal data you’d like removed, contact us (below) and we will delete it.

Data retention

Leaderboard entries remain until you or we remove them. License/purchase records are kept as long as needed to honour your purchase and for legal/accounting requirements. Diagnostics are kept only as long as useful for debugging.

Your rights & deleting your data

Depending on your country, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, or to object to certain processing. You can request this at any time — see our Data Deletion page for how to remove your leaderboard entry and purchase records. Local data (settings, local scores) is deleted by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, they rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Changes

We may update this policy; we’ll change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, note it in the Game.
